The one thing that usually always bothers someone is to find out that they had been lied to… It’s never a pleasant thing. Unfortunately, the one who lied to me was the Archangel of Death. He told me with a gentleman’s smile that I would be reincarnated in a new body and live life anew!
What a bunch of bull spaghetti!
Well, to be more specific, I did get a new body and a new life, but I found myself inhabiting the body of a young… or relatively young woman from the world of Ancaria from the Sacred game franchise. Somehow, I just knew this instinctively because Real-Life Sacred was VERY different. I had no user interface for once, and the graphics were amazing. Real life, duh!
Now, one thing was to find out you get sent over to another world and hold immense power, and another was to end up as a lone girl lost in the woods with nothing but the clothes on her back and a pretty moon up in the sky.
Long story short… this was my first reaction?
“Huh? What the? Where am I? What is this? Where are my boobs?”
Yes, in the previous life, I was a bit of a well-endowed lady, and I was mighty proud of it!
Looking around, I saw nothing but what appeared to be an endless forest. In my left hand was a dagger. I had a bit of blood on my forehead, and my clothes were a mess.
And here I thought I was going to get reincarnated in a baby and lose all of my memories… I smirked and tried to wipe the blood off my forehead.
“OUCHIE!” I almost screamed my lungs out.
Doing that in a dark spooky forest was probably the worst idea ever…
“Oh! You are here, I see!” said the Archangel of Death as he came down from the heaven and stumbled on a rock.
No, seriously, the dude stumbled on a rock and came crushing down, face first in the dirt.
“You OK?” I asked furrowing my brow at him.
“I hate walking…” he grumbled as he got up.
The Archangel of Death looked like a human man in his thirties with black hair and a small beard. His eyes were white, and surprisingly so were his wings. When I first saw him, I was expecting Bag O’ Bones Death with a scythe and everything. This guy looked good enough to date, minus the wings. Those would have freaked out any waiter or cause a never-ending photo shoot.
“Alright, so… what’s the deal with THIS?” I said pointing at my body.
“The world of Ancaria needs you, young hero. It is time for…” he stopped when he saw me crossing my arms to my chest and raising an eyebrow. “Ahem! Well, you aren’t technically… worthy enough to go to the next world, so we made a compromise.” he explained while scratching his cheek with a finger and showing me a forced smile.
“What did you mess up?” I asked him and squinted my eyes at him.
“Sort of… erm… your life?” he grinned, and I punched him in the face. “OW!” he cried as he stumbled back and fell on his behind. This body was quite strong. “Don’t you know it’s bad to hit the Archangel of Death in the face?!”
“No, but do let me try again! It was fun!” I showed him a smirk and cracked my knuckles.
Yes, I had/have a temper issue…
“Stop! Stop! Let me explain until the end!” he said quickly and raised both hands up.
“Very well. Talk.” I crossed my arms at my chest and waited for his explanation.
“Well… As I said, Ancaria needs a hero. This is that sort of world, you know, game-like world.”
“Where’s the UI then?” I asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Look on the back of your hand, you will see two symbols.” I looked and they were there. One was a swirly thing and the other was a twisted ‘I’. “The top one is your inventory. Most people here have that thing… It’s a body enchant of sorts. The other one is Character Status and Skill Tree.” he explained.
I pushed the upper one and saw the typical old Sacred 2 character status window. This brought back memories of late-night gaming and missed classes. Pushing the other one, I opened a wormhole of sorts. It was blue with purple lightning coming out and swirling around.
“This is…” I asked pointing at the thing.
“Your inventory… well sort off. I guess Inventory is wrongly put, maybe magic bag?” he said with a shrug.
“I see. Drop in here the things I don’t need. Hm… What do I have?” I asked myself and reached in. There was only one item: a potion with a red liquid inside. “Oh? Cherry Liquor? Don’t mind if I do!” I said took a gulp from the bottle.
“Technically Health Potion…” pointed out the elegant Archangel.
“BLEARGH! It tastes like someone dipped a sock in vinegar!” I gagged.
“How do you know how a sock dipped in vinegar tastes like?” he asked me with a raised eyebrow.
“College prank gone bad… From the prankster, I ended up as the prankee… Good times.” I smirked.
On the bright side of things, my forehead wound was healed up in a jiffy!
“So where were we at? Oh yes! You are here as a hero to save Ancaria. Basically, I grabbed the closest dying numskull… erm… I mean respected individual who met an untimely demise.” he tried to correct himself.
“I got it, the girl whose body I’m currently in died. You healed the body or resurrected it and then pushed my soul inside, right?” I asked.
“Pretty much.” he shrugged.
“So, what am I supposed to do to reincarnate again?” I asked him.
“To reincarnate with your current memories, you need to save Ancaria. Simple!” he smiled.
“In other words… I’m supposed to play the game in real life and hope for the best? So if I die, I don’t reincarnate with my past memories?” I asked.
“Yeah… pretty much.” he shrugged.
“OK then. Erm, why am I so calm?” I asked him.
Normally, I would have been screaming and panicking already.
“Souls who reincarnate and remember their death usually gain an ability that helps them to remain calm, that is if they aren’t traumatized by the way they died.” he shrugged.
“But I don’t remember how I died and not that much of my previous life.” I told him.
“Sealed memories. Just a safety precaution in case you go mad and want to destroy the world.”
“Sounds like it happened before.”
“You have no idea how many times souls in your position tried to change the world around them so that they can become their ruler.”
“Did any manage?” I asked as I closed the inventory wormhole.
“Yes… That’s how those worlds ended up having a Demon Lord and stuff like that.” he explained and then jumped up in the air. “I’m going to go now. Just go that way, and you will reach the village! Technically, you are part of the nearby Magic School, so you will need to head there afterward. You have two years to train and get to know a little better, in the meantime, try to pretend like you have amnesia or a rabbit ate your brain or something…” he shrugged and then flew off into the sky.
“Sigh… Well, it can’t get any worse than this.” I said with a smile.
